Current projects involve working in partnership with the DNR to assist private landowners to create food plots for both deer and turkey, and utilizing deer surveys and harvest checks to manage deer. BIWC has created and maintains an excellent Walleye fishery in Lake Geneserath through a stocking program that has been in place for 10 years. Wild turkeys, which were reintroduced through the Wildlife Club’s efforts, have a viable population which is monitored and maintained by club members. Recent cooperative efforts with the USDA Wildlife Division have resulted in a reduction of Double Crested Cormorants and the resurgence of small mouth bass populations. Also, BIWC contributes to the Harold Lounsberry scholarship fund from proceeds of the annual Hunter’s dinner. Join the Beaver Island Wildlife Club and help continue our many efforts at preserving the fish and wildlife of the Beaver Island Archipelago. Membership is open to the public at several affordable levels. Check out Facebook on how you can join or call (231) 448-2220.
