America's Emerald Isle

B e a v e r  I s l a n d

The most remote inhabited island in the Great Lakes, with a year-round population of 600 - a large percentage, of Irish descent. The residents' isolation, independence and respect for nature and traditions of the Island have made time slow down. Because Beaver Island offers a serene, relaxed life-style, many visitors have become regular vacationers, property owners and permanent residents. We welcome you to discover Beaver Island and decide where it may fit into your life.

Autumn on the Island

Come to the Island and see beautiful fall colors...

... reds and oranges reflected in the pristine Inland Lakes

or wonderful fields full of deer rimmed with colorful fall birches and maples...

and the old Island roads framed by a beautiful canopy of autumn leaves.

Upcoming Events

  • CELTIC GAMES - September 15
See athletes toss 28# quarter and 56# half weights, pitch the 16# sheaf, and the audience favorite, the caber toss, a 150-pound, 18-foot cedar tree balanced and tossed end over end. The Celtic Games will be Saturday September 15 starting at 10:00AM and concluding around 5:00PM. They will be held at the Bud McDonough Memorial Ball Park.

We hope to make them bigger and better this year with more pipers, dancers and a tent and flags. Also, a ceilidh ("KAY-lee" or party) will be at Donegal Danny's and the Shamrock.

  • BITE OF BEAVER ISLAND - October 6
See what the best professional and amateur chefs on the Island have to offer - sample a wide variety of treats.
    October 6, 2007

This year, the Bite of Beaver Island is so big it's spilling out of the Holy Cross Church Hall. Chef entry forms will be available from the Chamber during the first week of September.
