Kay (McDonough) Masini is a native Beaver Islander, born to Sarah Gallagher and Roland “Bruce” McDonough, (uniting the Sylvester McDonough and W.J. Gallagher Clans). She lived her early years on Beaver Island with her grandparents Mary Duffy and W. J. Gallagher, leaving for high school and college in the Chicago area. She returns often with her husband Don Masini, her four children and their families. ! She is a full-time artist who works in various media and styles. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree at the Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois and also studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, Oxford University in England and continues art studies with several American artists in workshops.
Her work is included in many collections in the U.S. and Europe and has earned many awards. Two paintings were selected and published by the North Light Books “Acrylic Works: The Best of Acrylic Painting” ! She has had nine solo exhibitions including one in Antwerp, Belgium hosted by the Internationale Vriendenkring and has participated in over 30 group exhibitions in Michigan and Minnesota.
Among her art organization memberships is a signature membership in ISEA (International Society of Experimental Artists). She has held presidential and vicepresidential offices in several art organizations with awards for design of stage sets, medical and educational brochures, etc.
Lecturer and former teacher — artist and author of Christmas booklet “ContemporaryChristmas Symbols in Art and Poetry” – —former partner in a Public relations and communications firm with such clients as the Brand Names Foundation, Whirlpool Marketing, etc.
She will be juror and judge of the annual competitive art exhibition opening October 4 this year outside Detroit in The Village Theater gallery in Canton, Michigan.
